A couple of months ago we started to create a holiday tradition at WOW. The first step was to see if we could also incorporate our gelato into the menu during the winter months. After a number of brainstorming sessions, we came up with the idea of introducing guilty pleasures during the holidays. Something for everyone. Are you crazy about chocolate? Do you choose a vegan option? Or do you go for a fluffy texture? Guess what? We did it! Satisfy your dessert cravings with our Guilty pleasures.

Yes! At WOW we do have vegan options! All the poppings and boba are vegan! Boba is made from tapioca starch which is extracted from cassava root. No gelatin! Popping boba is also gelatin free, because it is made from agar agar which comes from seaweed extract. And swapping the cow milk for creamy coconut milk or oat milk makes your bubble tea 100% vegan. At WOW we have plant-based and nut milk alternatives such as almond, oat, or soy.
The history of bubble tea can be traced back to the early 1980s in Taiwan. At the time, there were a few small tea shops in Taichung that began experimenting with new and innovative ways to serve tea. In order to stand out from the crowd, one tea shop owner decided to add chewy tapioca balls, or “bubbles,” to his tea. This resulted in a drink that was both delicious and fun to drink, combining tea, milk, and “bubbles”—chewy gelatinous candies made of tapioca or fruit jelly.
